The idea for a young person’s leadership course was sparked during a community of learning session in October. A different space led to new ideas and fresh conversations — and from that, a shared vision began to take shape.

What emerged was a bold and inclusive concept: a young people’s systems leadership course, mirroring the content and structure of the ceo-level programme. The goal? To ensure young people are not just participants, but equal partners in system-wide change.

Key principles agreed by partners:

  1. Same course, same quality – young people will experience the same interactive and engaging content as adults. Consistency in programme leadership ensures connected learning across generations.
  2. System-wide inclusion – all partners are involved, and young people are recognised as partners in the system.
  3. Shared language, common purpose – creating a space where everyone can articulate and engage in meaningful dialogue for change.
  4. From co-production to production – moving beyond co-design to shared ownership, recognising the power and agency of all participants.
  5. Leadership at every age – by naming the programme Systems Leadership Cohort 6, we affirm that leadership is a process, not a title — and that all participants are equal contributors to system transformation.

What we’re learning along the way:

  • Make space for conversations.
  • Follow the idea and explore its potential.
  • Find the rhythm — get people thinking.
  • Support and nurture the idea.
  • Move between the balcony and the dancefloor.
  • Build a framework and reach agreement.
  • Remember: the picture is yours to create.
