Communities

Move Together Blackpool works alongside local communities to break down barriers and build confidence in movement. Together, we’re creating more welcoming, accessible spaces where people can connect, be active, and live healthier, happier lives.

Creating connections

Stronger, Healthier Communities — Together

Our communities are at the heart of Move Together Blackpool. We’re working alongside local residents, partners, and organisations to make moving more part of everyday life — whether that’s a friendly chat about wellbeing, a family walk along the promenade, or a new activity in a local park. Together, we’re building a healthier, happier town where movement feels possible for everyone.

  • Empower People

We’re helping residents and community leaders across Blackpool feel confident starting conversations about movement, health, and wellbeing. Through initiatives like Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training, we’re building the skills and confidence to turn everyday chats into opportunities for positive change.

  • Connect Families

Families who move together grow stronger together. By working with family hubs and local partners, we’re creating more opportunities for parents, carers, and children to enjoy being active — from walks and park games to community events that make movement fun and inclusive for everyone.

  • Create Active Places

When our surroundings invite us to move, it becomes part of daily life. We’re connecting with travel and environment projects to make Blackpool’s streets, parks, and public spaces more welcoming and accessible — supporting a town where movement feels natural, safe, and joyful.

Building Confidence to Talk About Health and Movement

Every conversation has the power to make a difference. Through the Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach, Move Together Blackpool is helping people across the town feel more confident talking about health, wellbeing, and physical activity.

From housing teams and social care staff to community volunteers and local organisations, MECC training gives people the skills to have simple, supportive conversations that encourage others to move more. These chats often happen naturally — during home visits, community events, or day-to-day interactions — but their impact can be lasting.

By embedding this approach across our community networks, we’re helping Blackpool become a place where talking about wellbeing feels normal, accessible, and empowering for everyone.

Working Together to Move More, Every Day

Move Together Blackpool is all about helping our town move more — and our communities are where that change begins. By working alongside residents, local organisations, and partners, we’re breaking down barriers to physical activity and making it easier, safer, and more enjoyable for everyone to be active.

Through community engagement, we focus on:

  • Collaboration: Building relationships with local groups and community champions who understand what works best in their neighbourhoods.

  • Empowerment: Supporting people to take the lead, share ideas, and create new opportunities for movement.

  • Accessibility: Making sure everyone can find ways to move that suit their lifestyle, ability, and confidence level.

  • Celebration: Showcasing the creativity, passion, and energy of Blackpool’s communities through movement-based projects and events.

Together, we’re creating spaces and opportunities where people can connect, be active, and feel part of something bigger — a movement that’s reshaping how Blackpool moves.

Helping families feel better together

Families Moving Together

Being active as a family is one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to build healthier, happier lives. Move Together Blackpool works with local partners — from family hubs to schools and community groups — to help families find fun, accessible ways to move more every day.

  • Discover simple ways to move together

From walking the dog to dancing in the kitchen, we’re helping families find small, joyful ways to be active that fit naturally into their daily routines.

  • Connect with local opportunities

Through family hubs and community networks, families can access free or low-cost activities that make it easy to spend active time together.

  • Build confidence and wellbeing

By supporting parents and carers to lead by example, we’re helping families grow stronger — physically, emotionally, and socially.

  • Make movement part of family life

Our goal is to create a culture where being active feels normal, fun, and achievable for every household in Blackpool.
